The only geometric body that rolls its entire surface with one rotation

The oloid discovered by Paul Schatz. The oloid is the only geometric body that rolls its entire surface in one rotation. In doing so, it performs a tumbling, oscillating movement. In addition to possible technical applications of this geometry, the oloid is an extremely aesthetic shape, which is suitable for use as a hand flatterer, among other things.

Producing the exact geometry of the oloid is anything but trivial, even in the age of modern CNC production technology.

A special process had to be developed to enable the cost-effective production of medium batch sizes.

The Oloid, made as a hand flatterer from olive wood, was distributed by Kulturata e.V. and was also available from Manufactum.
