climaX|Change
An interpretation
In climaX|Change, the artist takes the already familiar symbolic elements and uses them in a new compositional arrangement to examine the dynamics and changes in the climate of gender roles - not only between men and women. The title suggests that this is not just about a sexual climax, but about a more profound change in the relationship and understanding between the sexes and 'sex'.
A change in the social, cultural and emotional climate that needs to be defined and implemented.
Shape and composition:
In the centre of the picture we find again an abstracted vulva shape, but this time it appears more restrained, almost as if it were wrapped at the sides in a dark shawl covering the open thighs to the left and right. The purple accents that frame the vulva create a suggestion of intimacy and vulnerability. This protected position reveals a deeper level of emotionality and need for protection.
At the top centre of the painting there is a large red circle - the frontal view of the tip of an ejaculating phallus. It is clearly penetrated by white, vertical shapes that form a direct connection with the vulva below. The transparency and softness of the light surfaces surrounding it give this phallic metaphor a kind of spiritual or energetic connection. Almost like a warming, protective glow, the male energy seems to shine over the whole scene.
This could suggest the urgent need for a balanced and respectful relationship between the sexes, allowing the individual to shine.
The left and right panels offer a certain symmetry and continuity through the three red circles in each. They seem to refer to repeating patterns.
Choice of colours:
The dominant colour palette of black, white, red and purple creates a clear and almost clinical atmosphere. The contrast between the colours symbolises the clear boundaries and yet deep connections between male and female energies, between aggression and gentleness, between tradition and change. The semi-transparent shades of grey that permeate the composition could almost be interpreted as neutral zones - perhaps a space for negotiation or the creation of a new balance.
climaX|Change calls for a re-evaluation of gender relations, away from traditional role models and towards a new balance. Highly abstract sexual symbols reveal the dynamics of sexual and social interactions and challenge us to question them. It seems to be a subtle appeal for a new togetherness - an interaction characterised by clarity, respect and spiritual connection. The vertical axis that connects the two symbols through the use of an identical formal language could indicate a way in which the sexes can come into harmony:
Not through dominance and aggression, but through mutual transformation and rapprochement.
The composition seems both grounded and cosmically uplifted, suggesting that this change in relationships is not just between individuals, but part of a larger, universal transformation. The title 'climaX|Change' suggests that this change is urgently needed in both personal and global contexts - a change that has not only sexual but also social and ecological implications.
All in all, a work that raises profound questions about the role of gender and power, while inviting reflection on what a new future might look like - a call to change the climate that affects both our human relationships and our relationship with the world.
